“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father” (Galatians 4:6)
“…wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence” (Acts 1:4-5)
The Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of God, is a promise from God, our Heavenly Father, to all who have been genuinely born from above. He comes to live within you and to give you eternal life.
The work of the Holy Spirit in you
The Holy Spirit is in you!
“And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and You will keep My judgments and do them” (Ezekiel 36:27 NKJV).
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know him for he dwells in you, and will be in you” (John 14:16-17 NKJV).
“And now you also have heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.” (Ephesians 1:13 NLT)
“By this we come to know (perceive, recognize, and understand) that we abide (live, and remain) in Him, and He in us: because He has given (imparted) to us of His [Holy] Spirit” (1 John 4:13 AMP).
“Now He who stablishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us, and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee” (2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NKJV).
“Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
The Holy Spirit fills you with God’s power!
“But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Ghost has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judaea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth” (Acts 1:8 AMP).
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1John 4:4 NKJV).
Every born-again believer is born of the Spirit of God (John 3:3,6; 1 John 5:1), and indwelt by the Spirit of God. His presence makes the believer’s body a temple (1 Corinthians 6:19, Romans 8:9-15, Galatians 4:6), and seals him for God (Ephesians 1:13, Ephesians 4:30).
However, the New Testament distinguishes between having the Holy Spirit, which is true for all born-again believers, and being filled with the Holy Spirit, which is the privilege and duty for all believers.
The Holy Spirit is the power of God. After being born-again, the believer must receive Him in power. This experience is called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit or the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
Like Jesus, the believer must be empowered with the Holy Spirit. Every thing Jesus did, He did in the power of the Holy Spirit. He was anointed with the Holy Spirit. He said in Luke 4:18-19:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”
The believer must have the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon him in order to have the power of God. He must be endued with His power to be used by God, and thereby fulfill His ministry in his life.
Practically speaking, living as a believer without the infilling of the Holy Spirit, is like receiving a brand new car with a brand new engine and failing to put a battery and or gas in it. The car can only sit where it is. It cannot be of service to you. It cannot fulfill the purpose for which it was created. It is the same with the born-again believer. Jesus gave the authority, but it is the Holy Spirit who gives the power or ability to be witnesses for Christ Jesus and to carry out His works. The power of the Holy Spirit enables the believer to live in line with God’s Word, to grow spiritually, and produce results that glorify and are pleasing to God.
Most of all, God promised that if you, the believer, ask for the Baptism of the Holy He will give this gift to you. So don’t buy into the idea that you cannot have it. The devil is a liar!
“If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” (Luke 11:11-13).
The Holy Spirit is your Teacher!
“But you are not like that, for the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and all of you know the truth. But you have received the Holy Spirit, and He lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you of all things, and what He teaches is true-it is not a lie. So continue in what He has taught you, and continue to live in Christ” (1 John 2:20,27 NLT).
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26).
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come” (John 16:13 NKJV).
The Holy Spirit is your Comforter!
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that he may remain with you forever” (John 14:16 AMP)
The Holy Spirit will lead you!
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” (Romans 8:14-16)
The Holy Spirit give life to your body!
“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you” (Romans 8:11).
The Holy Spirit prays for you!
“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don’t even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words” (Romans 8:26 NLT).
The Holy Spirit Strengthens you!
“That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:16,20).
The Holy Spirit fills you with God’s love!
“And this expectation will not disappoint us. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Ghost to fill our hearts with His love” (Romans 5:5 NLT).
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).
“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (JOHN 13:34-35).
“For the whole Law [concerning human relationships] is complied with in one precept, You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself” (Galatians 5:14 AMP).
“But anyone who does not love does not know God-for God is love. We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in Him. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them” (1 John 4:8, 16 NLT).
Have you received the infilling of the Holy Spirit? If not, all you have to do is just ask, and God will give it to you. He is faithful to His Word!
Jesus Is Lord!
Glory to God!
